L'envol des coquelicots
François Carrière de Glencoe · 2024
Admiration for Van Gogh and his colors is an inspiration. A visit to the Musée d’Orsay in winter 2024 reinforces this fascination: how could a tormented man create such vivid light? This canvas engages in a dialogue with Wheatfield with Crows, without confining the work to a tragic interpretation. It reveals another perspective: the painter’s encounter with nature, between anxiety and serenity. Vivid yellows pierce the chaos of the wheat; reds ignite them, giving them an almost violent energy. A fragile joy remains at the heart of this profusion. After eight nights of reflection, the canvas took shape on March 11. Executed in one hour, with a palette knife, in an uncomfortable studio to the sound of Virgin Prunes, it will not be retouched. Neither plagiarism nor imitation, the work offers an interpretation of the emotions evoked by Van Gogh. On the back, verses evoke poppies that fly away at the slightest touch: a metaphor for our inner balances, sometimes disrupted.
