La Poupée
François Carrière de Glencoe · 2025
The Doll marks a turning point in Carrière de Glencoe's artistic journey. Two years after his 2022 breakdown, painting, which has become a form of self-therapy, helps him to reconnect with himself.
Inspired by the dark world of Rammstein's song "Puppe," the canvas explores a disturbing aesthetic where innocence coexists with unease.
Its taut, vertical composition imposes a powerful presence. The colored masses alternate between deep shadows and bursts of light, as if the light itself were struggling to penetrate the material. The palette knife, precise yet deliberately imperfect, creates a vibrant texture that amplifies the tension of the scene.
The Doll defies easy interpretation. The artist aims to unsettle the viewer and provoke a sense of unease: a raw, unvarnished exchange where emotion transcends mere visual pleasure. This requirement marks the turning point that began during the winter of 2024-2025, when painting became more than a language: a vital confrontation, a quest carried out with and against the gaze of the public.
