Scary monsters

François Carrière de Glencoe · 2023

A first foray into large-format art, the work emerged from an instinctive gesture. On a colored background, gesso structures the space, joined by coffee, an organic material that fills the remaining areas. Splashes of white acrylic paint bring movement and breath.

After drying, forms appear: faces, silhouettes, fragments of presences. From this blurred material, "ghosts" emerge. The artist simply has to recognize them, highlight them with a line or a touch of light, as if revealing a buried secret.
These apparitions confirm an intuition: to be, above all, a storyteller, always telling the same story, which begins with "once upon a time." The viewer is invited to extend the narrative, to find their own memories and inner ghosts in these forms.
The title refers to the David Bowie album and song, where an unexpected darkness is revealed. Between energy and dread, beauty and heartbreak, the work opens a universe where matter becomes memory and the gaze, narration
